Sunday mornings @ 9:30 a.m. in the Annex  ~  WORLD HISTORY and THE BIBLE

Join us for the Adult Forum Sunday School Class where we will be studying the Bible in historical context! This will be a broad, wide view of major events in history, not an in-depth look at one happening or trend. We will also consider cultural developments, such as technology, music, coinage, social structure, Islam, etc. so that we may see the purposes of God in historical context.

Using the "Wall Chart of World History," a time-line of historical happenings that parallel events in the Bible from both the Old and New Testaments,  we will survey the history of the Jews, Egyptians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks, Romans, the German invasions and the development of western nations in which the church took part.

What can God teach us through the perspective of the past? We will look at history from a biblical perspective and the Bible from a historical perspective. The presence of Iran, formerly called Persia and at one time a great world empire favorably mentioned in the OT argues for learning about the region from a political perspective. The Middle East has humanity's oldest known roots and those who live there are very familiar with the ancients. Given the modern importance of the region, we should be able, through study, to put current events in perspective. In addition, we will look at the history of the church, which was vitally involved in the Middle East in the past - persecutions, councils, crusades, divisions etc.

We can learn much about the purposes of God in historical context by studying the perspectives of the past and applying what we learn to the days we live in now.

Sunday evenings  ~  Edith Neal will be leading a group this fall doing the express Alpha Bible Study beginning on October 12th at 7 p.m.  All who want to study a practical introduction to the Christian Faith are invited to attend. This is a ten week course. Alpha began at Holy Trinity Brompton church in London over 25 years ago. It is now running successfully in thousands of churches all over the world, in all denominations and settings that range from churches to campuses to prisons to our armed forces and more. Each session will begin with a 25 minute video narrated by Nicky Gumbel.  A discussion will follow.  Nicky studied law at Cambridge and theology at Oxford, practiced as a lawyer and is now Vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton church. He is the author of many books about the Christian faith and a very charismatic speaker. The class is for everyone who wants to know more about their faith and share it with others.

Monday evenings,  starting sometime in October  ~
the SoulJourners will meet at 6:30 p.m.  The exact date will be announced in the bulletin as well as the topic.  Walter Eisenhower will be leading the discussions.

Tuesday @ noon  ~  the Sowers meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at noon starting on September 16th. Come and enjoy your lunch as we study the book of Daniel and find out there is more to it then just the story of the lion’s den.  Janice Stickley will be leading the Bible study.
